About me

I lecture in Horticulture at Plumpton College, as well as running my own courses, together with a colleague, from my home in Brighton (The Garden House) on horticulture and traditional arts and crafts.  I am lucky enough to have a third of an acre of land, on which I grow vegetables, fruit and cut flowers, as well as trees and shrubs, herbs and roses with herbaceous perennials.

My garden has been on the Open Garden series with Carol Klein on BBC2, and together with students and colleagues from college I have designed and built gardens at both Chelsea and Hampton Court Flower Shows.  I have had an allotment of my own in the past but now my garden is enough for me to look after!  I wrote a book, Allotment Gardening, (Crowood Press, ISBN 978-1-84797-022-0) in 2009.

I am lucky enough to be the co-ordinator for the Garden Gadabout, an open gardens scheme, to raise money for the Sussex Beacon, and so I have had the privilege of visiting many allotments and gardens all over Brighton and the surrounding areas.
